Just checking in after a week of traveling. I lived in Boston for nearly 20 years. My take on Chelmsford is that it can be mixed given its proximity to Lowell; a local equivalent here might be Centreville/Manassas. Not the most desirable location on the northwest 495 corridor, but I'd guess it'd be more affordable than some other neighborhoods, and proximity to family/work might make it ideal for your friend.

BTW, I *loved* Boston for all the reasons you mentioned (tho far prefer Sunday River to Killington :). Would love to go back, but I'm staying here for job security and family reasons mostly. Miss it terribly!

hmmm..., never heard of Sunday River, will google and compare. i actually don't/didn't like killington that much (haven't been back for years), but it has all the bells and whistles you know.
