Virginia's Budget - About a Billion Short

Thanks, Novahog, for the link:

"Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine is laying off 570 state workers as the state's budget outlook worsens. . . .

. . . The Democratic governor says the state is likely to be $973 million short this fiscal year and $1.5 billion short in the fiscal year that begins next summer".
The good news, as Novahog pointed out, is that thrifty Governor Kaine is going to "dry-clean his drapes less often".

Unfortunately, there are budget shortfalls in many many states, having severe effects on the economy. California may request an emergency bailout from the federal government, and NY is not in good shape, either.

It means basic services will be hit hard. So, don't count on much improvement of the highways, bridges and local streets in your neighborhood.

I don't get the joke about Kaine's drapes. This is not funny stuff, folks - and as much as some may like to, Kaine is not the culprit here. And it is not Barney Frank either.

culprits:
-people for borrowing
-brokers for selling
-banks for enabling
-Fed/OCC/OTS/FDIC/SEC/OFHEO for sleeping
-Gov for allowing the regulators to sleep
-people for voting in the Gov

the list begins and ends w/ the people who have all the power but wield it to their own disadvantage.

that's the joke, not Kaine's drapes.
