Today's Fauquier Times-Democrat has a story on the latest round between Fauquier County and Centex Homes:
"Supervisor Bill Downey all but stuck a fork in the [Warrenton] 298-home Arrington Knolls proposal and declared it dead.
. . .
In particular, brief and pointed exchanges between Downey and Centex Division Manager Joseph Ricketts spoke volumes about the company's circumstances, prospects and extraordinary measures to dump projects and somehow save face.
When Downey slammed the company for its "horrendous" performance in Fauquier, Ricketts said: "You're right, it's been horrendous. The market's been horrendous. We are truly in unchartered territories as far as what we have encountered....If you talk with people who have been with [Centex] since the early '70s, this is the worst market that we've ever encountered. And we're trying to negotiate our way through that as best we can. We are holding onto these jobs. We are staying committed until it just doesn't make any sense."

It doesn't make sense now and it didn't make sense when they proposed these developments. They are too far from employment centers and Rt 29 is over capacity with little hope for improvemment. Centex just got caught up in the same bubble mentality as the rest of the fools. Clevengers Corner will be the next casualty.
