Marketing

The phone rang today. It was a number I didn't recognize. I was rather surprised that it was Ryan Homes calling. The chipper lady said, "we realize we haven't called you in a year, and we wanted to know if you were still in the market for a house." (I remembered I must have signed a card a year ago at an open house). I said that yes, we were renters and were looking at houses from time to time.

She proceeded to ask "what's the most important feature for you in a house?"

I said, "Price."

Other end . . . sputter . . . "Oh, well, but what's the most important thing for you in a house?"

I said again, "Well, the price is really the most important thing to me in a house."

She told me about various Ryan developments around Northern VA, but we determined that there were none where we want to live. So we ended the call amiably.

I must say, receiving a follow-up call from a year-old card at a model home was a first.

Well Harriet, sounds pretty dang desperate to me...I also have been receiving invites for luncheons & home-buying festivals from various Builders in the area recently. Basically, the Builders are giving away the options either completely "free" or dang near.

For a fun Saturday afternoon, you all should sit through a maybe-we'll-buy-something (NOT!) bash with one of these Sales Managers & see just how low they'll go!!

We walked into a model home after lunch about two months ago -- it was a mistake, as the staff were so disappointed not to be able to feed us from the bounty they'd trucked in.

Rule #1 of home shopping -- show up hungry.
